How to Receive a Fax

In Auto mode, the printer monitors the phone line and answers incoming fax calls after the configured number of rings. Received faxes print automatically and, on the ET-5850, can also be stored in memory (up to 550 pages) for printing later.

In Manual mode, you must press the Start button when the printer displays an incoming fax notification. Use this only if you actively monitor the printer.

Receive mode conflicts to watch for:

• Voicemail service: If your telecom provider's voicemail answers after 3 rings and your printer is set to answer after 4, every incoming fax goes to voicemail instead. Either disable voicemail on the fax line or set the printer to answer in fewer rings than voicemail kicks in.
• Call waiting: An incoming call waiting signal during a fax transmission will interrupt and corrupt the connection. Disable call waiting on the fax line by dialing *70 before sending (or ask your carrier to disable it permanently on that line).
• Call forwarding: Any call-forwarding service on the fax line will reroute incoming faxes away from the printer.
